The internal spiritual or psychological journey is one of humanity’s oldest stories, in which an external, physical journey represents the protagonist’s progress. Whether or not we ever undertake any physical travels, at some point in our lives each of us must overcome our own internal obstacles in order to reach our goals and aspirations.
This series came out of my own blocked progress. Creativity is a cycle of ups and downs, and there will always be times of feeling out of touch with the creative spirit. During one of these periods — frustrated because I knew it was there but was unable to reach it — I began to visualize the feeling as a place, an unforgiving landscape that I was exiled to. This work is the result of imagining what traveling through that place as a physical landscape might look like. Each set of images tells the story of an obstacle, a journey of evolution, and finally, a passage or escape.
